What is the Smoking Cessation Study?
This study aims to find the best way to help smokers quit. In particular, it compares the effectiveness of the nicotine patch and the nicotine lozenge (a small tablet that dissolves in the mouth). It also looks at how well different types of smokers quit with each form of nicotine replacement.
You may be eligible for the SMOKING CESSATION Research Study if:
- You are over the age of 18
- You currently smoke at least 10 cigarettes a day
- You are willing to use nicotine replacement therapy
- You are willing to accept either the patch or the lozenge (You cannot choose which one you will use.)

What are the benefits of participating?
- If you participate in the study, you will receive free 12 weeks of nicotine replacement medication and 5 counseling sessions with a trained specialist.
- By stopping smoking, you are likely to live longer and enjoy much better health.
- You will also receive a check for $20 after 15 and 27 weeks in the study.
With your help, researchers will learn how to help many more smokers to quit. You will be helping save lives. Deaths from smoking each year:
